Helleborus × sternii
Height x Spread: 30cm x 30cm
This hybrid Hellebore came about as a result of a cross between Helleborus argutifolius and Helleborus lividus. It has attractive blue/green slightly serrated, evergreen foliage with delicate silver marbling. Tall burgundy flower stalks bear the palest green & buff coloured flowers from late winter until spring. Once the flowers have finished and been allowed to go to seed, the old flowering stems can be cut back.
Although this Hellebore is happiest in full sun it will tolerate very light-shade. It needs a fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral to alkaline pH. Helleborus x sternii is an obvious choice for a winter garden, ideal for adding winter & spring interest to any sheltered, sunny border. It looks most impressive when planted in groups but can equally be grown as a single specimen plant in a pot.
Do not consume any part of this plant as it is extremely harmful. Skin irritant.
