Viola ‘Marie-Louise’ (dPVt)
Height x Spread: 15cm x 30cm
This mat-forming tender perennial has green heart-shaped foliage. ‘Marie-Louise’ is a double Parma violet (dPVt) , she has highly scented, large double lavender/blue blooms with white centres. Her flowers first appear during the autumn, keep picking these flowers to make small bouquets and this will encourage further flowering. ‘Marie-Louise’ given the right conditions will continue to flower until May. Parma violets are wonderfully fragrant plants and perfect for a cool conservatory throughout the winter months.
Ideally these tender Violas should be grown in pots in a fertile, moisture retentive yet free-draining soil or compost. Place the pots into either a cold frame, glasshouse or polythene tunnel with good winter light, where they will be protected from the worst winter weather. They can be placed outside in a shady location after the last of the spring frosts. Remove the long runners that these violets produce to encourage strong flowering. Parma violets have been grown in the UK for 150 years, predominantly as cut flowers.
